New Alternative to Dropout Problem Among Young Adults
The latest numbers show that over 3.8 million young adults are not enrolled in school. But with the recent Supreme Court ruling in favor of "school choice" being one of today's hottest political issues, students and parents are discovering an alternative to traditional public schools. Instead of waiting until September, kids who have failed or dropped out of school can enroll in one of these alternative schools right away. One such school is the tuition-free Life Skills Center in Elyria, Ohio. Publicly funded, Life Skills Centers focus on giving maximum personal attention, with classes no larger than 11 at a time. Brennan Cannivet Declares his Independence from Florida Public Schools!
On the 233rd celebration day of our country declaring its independence, a Florida public school student declares his independence from a school system that bullied, punished, and pushed him out in retaliation for his parents education advocacy efforts. But, Collier County Public Schools did NOT damper his desire, nor his commitment, to earn his high school diploma. Brennan Cannivet sends a message of encouragement to all students who may feel like giving up due to bureaucratic neglect, abuse or bullying, or from being bullied at school by other students.

Salem, NH School District Renovation Plan
These forty+ year old facilities lack space to accommodate our new kindergarten program as well as programs introduced within the past generation. The electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems all need upgrades as do all the interior finishes. A facilities audit completed in 2005 identified renovation needs totaling ten million dollars. We have been unsuccessful in securing more than $1.5 million in funding to begin addressing these deficiencies. In 2008 the Board charged the Superintendent with developing a facilities master plan to address our aging schools needs. This plan was completed earlier in the 2009-2010 school year and considers our schools renovation and expansion needs to address current deficiencies that include sub-standard instructional spaces, poor storage, failing systems, inadequate security, and low building code compliance.

Interview with Lloyd McKell, Toronto District School Board
The Bertelsmann Stiftung identified exemplary programs that foster "integration through education" in ten selected countries for the Carl Bertelsmann Prize 2008. The Stiftung's Jury chose the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) as this year's prize winner from a pool of four finalists. The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is the largest school authority in Canada. It is responsible for more than 550 schools and 270000 students. Fewer than 50 percent of these students speak English as their mother tongue, about 30 percent were born outside Canada and 10 percent have been living in Canada for three years or less. Despite this extraordinary challenge, TDSB students demonstrate above-average school attainment. Second-generation children of immigrant origin, who were born in Canada, perform on par with their peers on average.

Project Justice Taiyo Arcade Playthrough (Part 1)
Well, well. Looks like there's another Capcom relic that I found in my gaming archives, and for no other system than for the Sega Dreamcast. Any Capcom fan knows about Rival Schools, but not too many managed to pick up Project Justice, it's 128 bit sequel. It's especially rare to find now in the midst of the next-gen days with the Dreamcast being long extinct, but I'm here to show you just how great that game really was. It was an excellent improvement over it's Playstation prequel and bosted a healthy cast of school brawlers. This run here shows off the arcade mode using the Taiyo school main team with a slight twist. Instead of using normal Batsu I use his hard-trained counterpart, Burning Batsu, Hinata in her alternate school uniform (hense the name Hinata2), and Kyosuke... as... well... his normal self (although he is the one people recognize the most for his Capcom vs SNK 2 appearance and the Mugen scene). Hope you all enjoy watching.

From Clueless to Focused: Part 2 of 3
A Documentary Following One School's Students Through a Freshman Transition Course Between 2004/2005 and 2007/2008, Silverado High School in Victorville, Calif. has seen a 69% increase in student GPAs and a dramatic drop in suspension rates since requiring its 1500 freshmen to enroll in a freshman seminar course called Success 101. Using The George Washington Universitys Course Standards for Freshman Transition Classes and the Career Choices curriculum, Success 101 is designed to help students in the freshman houses establish a firm foothold in high school and envision a future beyond high school. Our cameras followed a handful of Silverado's freshman students and faculty for one year as they made their way through the Career Choices material, and the resulting documentary proves that attitudinal change and dropout prevention is possible when students understand—at a gut level—what getting a good education means to their future life satisfaction.
