How To Become a Paralegal or Legal Assistant
While lawyers assume ultimate responsibility for legal work, they often delegate many of their tasks to paralegals. In fact, paralegals—also called legal assistants—are continuing to assume a growing range of tasks in legal offices and perform many of the same tasks as lawyers. One of a paralegals most important tasks is helping lawyers prepare for closings, hearings, trials, and corporate meetings. Paralegals might investigate the facts of cases and ensure that all relevant information is considered. They also identify appropriate laws, judicial decisions, legal articles, and other materials that are relevant to assigned cases. Most entrants have an associate degree in paralegal studies, or a bachelors degree coupled with a certificate in paralegal studies. Some employers train paralegals on the job.

How To Become an Executive Secretary
As an executive secretary, you may work in schools, hospitals, legal, and corporate offices. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that 9 out of 10 executive assistants work for service-providing industries, such as education, health, government, and retail trade. The basic training for an executive assistant is through a combination of classes and general office experience. Most business schools and colleges offer a two-year program for an associate's degree. You may be required to take classes in bookkeeping, word-processing, business communication, and time management. It may be necessary to continue your education and retrain as technology evolves. There are also several certifications available to enhance your qualifications. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, "Certification in this field usually is rewarded by a higher salary."

Is college football a positive influence in American universities? Debating this topic are professors Thomas Palaima and Lino Graglia. Lino Graglia is the Dalton Cross Professor of Law. Professor Graglia has written that big-time college football is a "fraudulent enterprise." Thomas Palaima is the Raymond F. Dickson Centennial Professor and founding Director of the Program in Aegean Scripts and Prehistory in the Department of Classics. He is also UT's representative to the national Coalition on Intercollegiate Athletics. The event was the second in a series called the Texas Chautauquas, faculty debates on issues of local and national interest that are hosted by the Texas IP Fellows program at the University of Texas at Austin.
