Sara Powell - Medical Secretary
Sara Powell works in the Histopathology Department at Addenbrookes Hospital as a medical secretary "Anybody who has anything wrong with them, or anything taken out of them, will come through the department for analysis". She has done several different jobs over the years, but always wanted to work in a hospital. After gaining some computer qualifications she was offered a secretarial role at Addenbrookes. She says "life is very short, it's too short to be horrible to people or to sit around being miserable. Just get out there and be happy really, that's what you have to do. Enjoy every day."

General Eric Shinseki Secretary of Veterans Affairs confirmation hearing
January 14, 2009- US Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D-HI), Chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee, held a confirmation hearing on General Eric Shinseki, President-elect Barack Obama's nominee to be Secretary of Veterans Affairs, on Jan. 14. General Shinseki was introduced by two distinguished World War II veterans Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Senator Daniel K. Inouye (D-HI), and former Senator Bob Dole. Both praised General Shinseki and urged his confirmation. Shinseki is the former US Army Chief of Staff, who ended his distinguished career of military service in August 2003. Wounded in Vietnam, he petitioned successfully to remain in the military despite his injury. Shinseki was confirmed by the full Senate on Jan. 20. More information available at: akaka.senate.gov

Secretary Arne Duncan Takes Listening Tour to Detroit
Secretary of Education Arne Duncan was in Detroit May 13, for a stop on his listening tour on education reform. He met with Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, union leaders and district leaders. He also visited Cody High School, where he talked with students. The Detroit trip was the secretary's second stop that will eventually take him to 15 states. What he learns on the tour will inform his ideas on his proposal to reauthorize the No Child Left Behind Act.
