From Clueless to Focused: Part 2 of 3

A Documentary Following One School's Students Through a Freshman Transition Course Between 2004/2005 and 2007/2008, Silverado High School in Victorville, Calif. has seen a 69% increase in student GPAs and a dramatic drop in suspension rates since requiring its 1500 freshmen to enroll in a freshman seminar course called Success 101. Using The George Washington Universitys Course Standards for Freshman Transition Classes and the Career Choices curriculum, Success 101 is designed to help students in the freshman houses establish a firm foothold in high school and envision a future beyond high school. Our cameras followed a handful of Silverado's freshman students and faculty for one year as they made their way through the Career Choices material, and the resulting documentary proves that attitudinal change and dropout prevention is possible when students understand—at a gut level—what getting a good education means to their future life satisfaction. He was at Gnomedex last year with us, and attended the Hejira concert at my house back in February when Kat was here. Why didn't he just come on over here to ask his question? In any case, Craighton called to ask me how I could see the iPad used as an educational tool in schools.
