Part 3 -- Music, Melos, and Miracles: The Art of Listening
"Music, Melos, and Miracles: The Art of Listening" is a weekly eight-part series, excerpted from the longer workshop "Healing: Hearing the Melody" by Dr. Kenneth Wapnick, which was recorded live in August, 2003 at the Foundation for "A Course in Miracles" in Temecula, CA. (available at facim.org "Wagner: Beyond the Notes." Using key ideas from the seminal essay by Richard Wagner, "On Conducting" (1869), Kenneth develops a framework through which he looks at how he was influenced to integrate his "Beethoven experiences" with his personal and professional lives. Kenneth introduces the idea of "melos"—as articulated by Wagner in his essay—the inner melody that is the heart of any musical composition. A link is made between these ideas and the importance of "listening" to the inner melos in "A Course in Miracles." The Foundation is deeply grateful to Tim Stone and Katherine Grady for initiating and creating this eight-part series.

Part 1 -- Music, Melos, and Miracles: The Art of Listening
"Music, Melos, and Miracles: The Art of Listening" is a weekly eight-part series, excerpted from the longer workshop "Healing: Hearing the Melody" by Dr. Kenneth Wapnick, which was recorded live in August, 2003 at the Foundation for "A Course in Miracles" in Temecula, CA. (available at facim.org In Part 1, "Freud and Beethoven: Learning to Listen," Kenneth talks about two major influences in his adolescence and early adulthood: his discovery of the works of Sigmund Freud, leading to his subsequent decision to become a clinical psychologist, and his deep love and appreciation of classical music. He describes how Beethoven had become "a spiritual director or spiritual guide for me," and also talks about his growing realization that he was becoming a clinical psychologist in a field that did not address the sublime inner reality that he was experiencing through music. The Foundation is deeply grateful to Tim Stone and Katherine Grady for initiating and creating this eight-part series.
