Paralegal Salaries Climb Despite Economic Downturn

Despite the economic downturn, paralegal salaries continue to climb, according to Legal Assistant Today magazine’s 17th Annual Salary Survey, published in the March/April 2009 issue. This year’s survey reports that the national average salary for paralegals in 2008 was $54,859, a 3.5% increase from the previous year. The highest reported full-time salary was $103,000. Is a paralegal just as safe to use as a lawyer for bankruptcy? A co-worker of mine referred me to a paralegal that has helped a few of her friends and cousins get through bankruptcy. He is only going to charge me $600 (as opposed to up to $1700 with a lawer) and literally walk me through it. I guess the word "paralegal" is worrying me a little because he is not a lawyer but does anyone else have any experience with a paralegal and bankruptcy? If so, contact whoever is in charge of the testing and ask them what percentage of graduates from your choice of schools pass the exam on the first try.
