Paralegal Questions?
There are no paralegals in my area, and also no programs(except online certifications, one of which is Blackstone Career Institute). I have an A.A already and would like to get my B.A, is there any “general” degrees maybe a liberal arts degree I could get to help instead of certificate? Can you tell me more about the profession, the hours, and everything? Thanks, God bless! Comment from jannsody Time April 30, 2010 at 10:45 am The only information that I was told awhile ago was that paralegals generally need a bachelor’s degree in ’something’. The Bar has alleged that paralegals at Hernandez’s firm, which has offices in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota, improperly provided legal advice to clients and charged excessive fees. Grievance committees have also made two probable cause findings against Hernandez and attorney Dennis Nemeth for how they handled the case of a Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputy from Lutz. Why, at my last job as a employee of someone else (i.e., see above reference to being a paralegal), our group health plan was so bad that re-upping my coverage would have swallowed half of my damn paycheck just to cover the premiums. No wonder people chance going through life without a net. Still, that’s all well and good until you come down with terminal cancer. Or, let’s look at this on a more everyday level: how many people have you known who have ever been pregnant? Do you know what my son and his mother’s medical bills totaled on the day of his birth? There's another concern paralegals share: cost. "It's going to become a lot more expensive to practise," says Wanda Forsythe, chair of the school of legal and public administration at Toronto's Seneca College. And those costs will be passed down to the public. Thanks to a new education requirement, people wanting to take up the profession will now have to pay college tuition for a two- to four-year program; after that there are insurance costs, and a $500 application fee to the law society. Experienced paralegals could skip the education requirement if they paid $1,075 and wrote an exam. (Of [more...]
