Paralegal Power to the People! Santa Monica - Dean McAdams ...

After attending UCLA paralegal school and then working in law firms, insurance companies and reading law for over twenty years I understand how the entire system really works. The founding fathers of America never went to law school or took bar exams; they simply "read" law.  After a hard day of splitting logs, Abraham Lincoln read Black's Law by the firelight and then went out and became a successful lawyer because Honest Abe solved people's problems for a very reasonable one silver dollar.  And Abe may not have always filed a lawsuit to solve those problems, which is why I am so into [more...]

paralegal by day rockstar by night

I left Louisiana in Dec 1987 and moved to Houston. I attended Art Institute of Houston and graduated with a degree in Commercial Art in January 1990. I worked as a men's clothing designer at a company called Scope Imports from Jan 1990 to Oct of 1993. I left there and did this and that for a while (mostly the things 20 somethings do when they are single) then decided I had better go back to school. I attended University of Houston in pursuit of an Art History degree from Spring 1995 thru Fall 1996. Things weren't going so well for me financially, so I decided to move back to Slidell in Dec [more...]

Laura tagged herself with this meme. I like that. Then she tagged me: Four jobs I've had: 1. My first job, other than babysitting, was at Southeastern Paralegal Institute. I worked there the summer after graduating from high school. Doing receptionist/filing/typing etc.---a job I was poorly suited for, as efficiency is hardly my middle name. My mom would call me at work and burst out laughing because my "Good morning, Southeastern Paralegal" sounded so terrified. 2. Southington, Cheshire court merger discussed at Law Day program ...

Similar consolidations are happening all over Connecticut. Meccariello said state lawmakers crafted the legislation to reduce the number of probate courts in the state from 117 to 54. Probate courts are mostly self-sustaining, sending the fees they collect for their services to a state office, which then pays the judge and staff. Southington pays less than $10,000 each year toward maintaining the probate court, springing for items such as paper, postage and scanning documents. Cheshire, which is expected to account for one-third of the cases, will contribute a proportionate amount of money, [more...]
