The Secret Law Of Attraction Self Exploration In The Law Of ...

He finished paralegal school while living in a tent. The first person in the history of the school to do so! With a 3.42 average no less. The funny part of the story comes next, because after all that dedication and persistence, one again he made the drastic choice to move more than 1500 miles south to the Tampa Bay Area and give up that career before it even started. A career that pays around $80,000 a year no less.... No regrets the author says, as he does much better than that now through the internet! Now we come to the time where the author reluctantly ended up viewing the secret and [more...]

Post of the Week: Trade School Debt

Why is being a paralegal a “trade” when I work in the same office and make more than the contract attorneys? Nursing is a “professional” school. Also keep in mind everyone else got to choose a topic for their post of the week. I was considering expanding my previous post about deception in higher education. Maybe here I can do both – after all Benito’s crooked mustache is endearing. It says “I have never been employed long enough to learn to shave properly.” So it would seem trade schools and for-profit colleges are moving in on the federal student loan money coveted by more [more...]

Top Reasons to Become a Paralegal | Criminal Justice School Guide

Paralegals were recently listed as CNBC.com’s 7th Best Job in America for 2010- and we are not surprised! Here is a list of reasons why we feel becoming a paralegal is an excellent career choice for individuals of all types. Paralegals are in High Demand. As demand for legal services grows, so does the need for paralegal assistance.  This is partially because law firms are able to cut costs by hiring paralegals instead of additional lawyers. Also, other types of organizations (insurance companies, real estate and title insurance firms, corporate legal department, and banks) are beginning [more...]

Confidence Failure Is Not An Option

A paralegal certificate in NJ is five months full time, ten months part-time and according to the Labor Department stats I read, ends up making as much as some lawyers I know. Anyway. Toying with the idea. Opinions welcome. Sherri said... Can't hurt to try. I'm considering something like that myself, once we have a feel for where we will be. Right now I don't feel comfortable making any plans for myself that extend past the end of the week. July 6, 2009 5:21:00 PM EDT Zayrina said... The outlook job wise for lawyers is bleak. Has anyone completed the Paralegal Associates Degree Program from ...

I am having second thoughts about the credibility of the school and my degree. Will any law firm take me seriously? I cannot seem to find any feedback from former students who have taken this program. (Other than what the school’s website has published.) I am a mother of three so the online aspect is very appealing, however, I don’t want to waste my time, and more importantly, my money. Any suggestions? I was a paralegal for a divorce lawyer and they make ok money. The real money is in business/corporate/tax law. Why am I seeing job postings where some paralegals are making more ...

You need to be very, very careful. Most of these postings are fictitious and fabricated - just made up by temp agencies trying to lure in employees. Be very, very careful. Since this vocational field is shrinking (at an alarming rate), many new attorneys/lawyers are, themselves, having to work "down" as Paralegals, Legal Assistants, Legal Secretaries, Bailiffs, Court Reporters, etc, etc, to simply try to keep some of their bills paid <that the job market/economy is just SATURATED with way too many Legal Professionals. Instead the schools will feed you a fairytale and will LIE to you. The root [more...]

Marc Morales On The Beat: East Of Tiffany's

Sunday afternoon. After spending a excellent hour at Borders (57th and Park Avenue), I went to Staples (aptly diagonally the street) to buy a rim of document for my printer. Since I am a cop -on and off duty- I always take a quick look of the whole scene of any place I go. By the pens and markers section I saw a tall blond (her back to me) talking to a man who looked like Yo Yo Ma (the renowned cellist). Didn’t make much of it; the store was a small empty, unlike weekdays when it is usually crowded. So I went about my business. Before long I found myself at the notebook shelf, just curious, [more...]

Louisville News and Politics: KATIE KING: Are you serious?

Just really she has done nothing more than being a paralegal since she does not try the cases and really lacks the experience to do so. Does her appearance or social status make her qualified for the position. It shouldn't but obviously there are those out there that will vote for someone such as this when that person doesn't have the qualifications to do so. All over Metro Louisville you find businesses that complain about finding quality workforce team players yet they will hire based on who knows who rather than who knows what. So much for any sort of merit system. Qualifications, [more...]

Is a paralegal just as safe to use as a lawyer for bankruptcy ...

Is a paralegal just as safe to use as a lawyer for bankruptcy? A co-worker of mine referred me to a paralegal that has helped a few of her friends and cousins get through bankruptcy. He is only going to charge me $600 (as opposed to up to $1700 with a lawer) and literally walk me through it. I guess the word "paralegal" is worrying me a little because he is not a lawyer but does anyone else have any experience with a paralegal and bankruptcy? Just my opinion….but I’ve seen this from a lot of differant angles. I have seen a lot of very smart paralegals…and a lot of very dumb lawyers. [more...]

How Much Money Does a Paralegal Make? | Whats My Income?

Salaries are determined based on many factors: education, training, experience, the type and size of employer and the location of the job. Those who work for smaller firms or in less densely populated regions tend to make less based on earnings for their company. Paralegals who work for larger law firms or in large cities earn more. Top earning paralegal positions tend toward working for law firms on projects related to contracts, product liability, and intellectual property. On the corporate end of the spectrum, high earning paralegals were employed to handle work related to mergers and [more...]

Should I use a notary or paralegal to prepare or execute a Florida ...

Ah, this is a question I posed with a bit of lawyer bias, but I’m glad you ran into my post before you consider trying to save yourself money by hiring a notary or paralegal to draft a Florida will for you.  At the very least though, I am glad you are making the decision to have a last will and testament because Florida intestate succession usually causes problems. I’ve seen ads in the Jacksonville Craig’s List site advertising “cheap wills,” and through my attorney’s eyes, those type of ads are the same as handwritten yard signs on the side of busy intersections saying “work [more...]
