How Much Money Does a Paralegal Make? | Whats My Income?

Salaries are determined based on many factors: education, training, experience, the type and size of employer and the location of the job. Those who work for smaller firms or in less densely populated regions tend to make less based on earnings for their company. Paralegals who work for larger law firms or in large cities earn more. Top earning paralegal positions tend toward working for law firms on projects related to contracts, product liability, and intellectual property. On the corporate end of the spectrum, high earning paralegals were employed to handle work related to mergers and [more...]

Legal Assistant 101

Legal Assistant, or paralegal, is one of the fastest growing career tracks today. Legal Assistant, or paralegal, is one of the fastest growing career tracks today. More companies are favoring legal assistants over attorneys to keep overhead costs down. Even so, attorneys still account for hiring seven out of ten paralegals. Paralegals perform many of the same tasks as attorneys. They prepare for closings, hearings, trials and corporate meetings. A legal assistant will also research and investigate facts relevant to a case such as laws, judicial decisions and legal articles. They write [more...]

Attorney General Rob McKenna and Secretary of State Sam Reed emerged from the U.S. Supreme Court today optimistic that the high court will allow Washington and other states to treat initiative and referendum petitions as releasable public records. McKenna, making his third appearance before the court, and Reed, the state’s chief elections officer, both said they counted a majority of the justices who seemed sympathetic to Washington’s argument that the vote-approved Public Records Act requires release of petitions to those who make a request and pay the duplication cost. They said the [more...]

Becoming a Paralegal is a Hands-On Career

For anyone interested in pursuing a career in the legal profession with a more hands on approach to law without actually being a lawyer, or are looking for a way to get a foot in the door of the legal field, becoming a paralegal may be the ideal choice. Most people have heard of the term "paralegal" or "legal assistant", but are unsure as to the exact details of what a paralegal does. A paralegal or a legal assistant is a person who is employed by a law office, corporation, individual, or government agency, who performs legal work for which a lawyer is usually responsible. If you got your Associates in Paralegal Studies & the program was ...

One Response to “If you got your Associates in Paralegal Studies & the program was ABA approved does it matter?” Comment from Libraryanna Time May 4, 2010 at 4:57 pm I think attorneys mostly look at what you know. I suppose if you want to work at a high power big firm, it could matter. ABA lack of approval can be for reasons unrelated to quality. For example, my law school for years was not approved because they offered part time programs. Didn’t make sense, but that’s the way they are. See if they are accredited/certified by someone such as the state bar. I’m a paralegal, but [more...]

Louisville News and Politics: KATIE KING: Are you serious?

Just really she has done nothing more than being a paralegal since she does not try the cases and really lacks the experience to do so. Does her appearance or social status make her qualified for the position. It shouldn't but obviously there are those out there that will vote for someone such as this when that person doesn't have the qualifications to do so. All over Metro Louisville you find businesses that complain about finding quality workforce team players yet they will hire based on who knows who rather than who knows what. So much for any sort of merit system. Qualifications, [more...]

He finished paralegal school while living in a tent. The first person in the history of the school to do so! With a 3.42 average no less. The funny part of the story comes next, because after all that dedication and persistence, one again he made the drastic choice to move more than 1500 miles south to the Tampa Bay Area and give up that career before it even started. A career that pays around $80,000 a year no less.... No regrets the author says, as he does much better than that now through the internet! Key decisions have to be made about how to organize and filter electronic information.  Paralegals are wonderful people, but they shouldn't be primarily responsible for making important decisions about how to handle discovery.  Well, sadly, in some cases maybe they should. After a 4-year hiatus in which I worked as a writer and a paralegal, I started working for a commercial real estate research company in an analyst role, then transitioned into a management role. At the beginning of 2008, I went to work as a Federal Contractor as a Realty Specialist for the Farm Service Agency. Take care in classifying employees - Wisconsin Law Journal - Article

She noted that a Department of Labor advisory opinion from 2005, FLSA 2005-9, specifically addressed the issue of whether a paralegal with a four-year degree, a paralegal certificate, CLE and 22 years’ experience could fall under the professional exemption, and concluded he or she could not. Rather, the exemption is only available for paralegals who possess advanced specialized degrees in other professional fields and apply advanced knowledge in that field in the performance of their duties. For example, an engineer, hired as a paralegal to provide expert advice on product liability or [more...]

Where Can I Find a Personal Injury Attorney In Chicago Area? I have an appointment with my attorney tomorrow, and I was hoping for some tips on what type of questions to ask him? The 2005 "Best Places to Work" program study showed that, contrary to popular opinion, employee satisfaction didn't depend on salary.
