Jurisdiction/Place: USA - California What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California divorce. I'm not sure if this would be a reassessment or just a first assessment because the first agreement was decided between our paralegals or just my paralegal so I would appreciate some kind of legal advice about my divorce case. Was legally married for 28 years. Separated for three (3) years six (6) months. Divorced for one (1) year. Went to paralegal for divorce . Divorce agreement was supposedly between both parties. Was under the impression the "agreement" was also supposed to be legal [more...]

Paralegal Questions?

There are no paralegals in my area, and also no programs(except online certifications, one of which is Blackstone Career Institute). I have an A.A already and would like to get my B.A, is there any “general” degrees maybe a liberal arts degree I could get to help instead of certificate? Can you tell me more about the profession, the hours, and everything? Thanks, God bless! Comment from jannsody Time April 30, 2010 at 10:45 am The only information that I was told awhile ago was that paralegals generally need a bachelor’s degree in ’something’. I’m sure a certificate program [more...]

Dear Mr. President

The Secret Service was at the door of this 57-year-old Roosevelt University Alumnus and Current Paralegal Program Student at 1:15 PM today to investigate “Mails you sent to Roosevelt University” (their words) which contained serious and well founded allegations regarding the true loyalties of Chairman (er, President) Barrack Hussein Obama. As you are aware, the true motivation of the missives was to advise of serious academic misconduct, instructor malfeasance and elder abuse at the hands of RU Paralegal Professor Jim Fine. The Secret Service had been told (apparently by RU Chief of [more...]

The Bar has alleged that paralegals at Hernandez’s firm, which has offices in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota, improperly provided legal advice to clients and charged excessive fees. Solo Punished for Paying Paralegal a Percentage of Fees | Dirty ...

And her average compensation averaged about $28,750 per year, which seemed roughly in line with what a paralegal and secretary might earn anyway. Burger told the disciplinarians he didn’t know he was violating rules — a claim undercut by the fact that he paid through a third-party entity, the board said. Still, his unblemished record and his acknowledgement that he did wrong were mitigating factors. Anthony Fusco Jr., a personal injury lawyer in a similar case, In Re Fusco, 197 N.J. 428 (2009), received a three-month suspension for a more pervasive per-case compensation plan for [more...]

She started her legal career 25 years ago as a paralegal, taking a class here and a class there as she took care of her three children, the eldest of whom is a special needs individual. That all changed when she had what she calls a life-altering experience in 1992. She became very ill and almost died three times. During her illness, the community took care of her family, making sure that they had food to eat and that the bills were paid. Upon recovery, she vowed to give back. Her three goals since then have been to complete law school, work in the community, and be involved in her [more...]

Wild Wild Law: Legal Antics and Jurisprudence in Nevada: Place ...

We propose a bright-line rule: If you screw your clients out of an amount greater than your law school tuition, you don't get to keep your license. Fair enough? Winkler is currently working as a paralegal at attorney Bret Whipple's office (who's website has, as of this writing, been hijacked by some architectural firm), and has reportedly paid $84,000 in restitution since her suspension two years ago. Apparently, Whipple pays his paralegals quite well. Winkler's hearing will resume sometime in the next 30 days. Thrown out of court | Macleans.ca - Canada - Features

There's another concern paralegals share: cost. "It's going to become a lot more expensive to practise," says Wanda Forsythe, chair of the school of legal and public administration at Toronto's Seneca College. And those costs will be passed down to the public. Thanks to a new education requirement, people wanting to take up the profession will now have to pay college tuition for a two- to four-year program; after that there are insurance costs, and a $500 application fee to the law society. Experienced paralegals could skip the education requirement if they paid $1,075 and wrote an exam. (Of [more...]

Regarding being a Paralegal: Employers (usually law firms) in the field of Law today want employees with Bachelors degrees from traditional colleges/universities. Those “certificates” you see advertised aren’t worth the paper they are printed on – they are generally scams. (I found this out the hard way.) Cost of law school to be lawyer, approx $150,000+. We lived with it all those years rather joyously.” Before it got to Cedar Rapids, however, the organ was kept in a building with no consistent heat source and had started to dry out. She noted that a Department of Labor advisory opinion from 2005, FLSA 2005-9, specifically addressed the issue of whether a paralegal with a four-year degree, a paralegal certificate, CLE and 22 years’ experience could fall under the professional exemption, and concluded he or she could not. 3 Responses to “What are the benefits of getting an ABA approved Paralegal Degree?” Comment from ipguy Time May 3, 2010 at 5:09 pm I am not sure I fully understand what you are trying to ask, but here goes. The only reasons you would want a paralegal degree would be either for personal development or to get a paralegal position. Some law firms will only hire paralegals from ABA-approved schools. The more educated you are, the more money you make. Making more money is the benefit that most paralegal students seek. In theory, an ABA-approved school provides a better education than a [more...]
