Put job search on hold for education | The Red and Black
And to those of you who say getting a master’s degree is only for people who really know what they want to do — you say that when things are good. People can get jobs when the economy is fine. But you know what I say — we’re in a global recession, and more education can’t hurt.Getting a bachelor’s degree today is now equivalent to a high school degree. Everyone’s got one now. That’s an even more important reason to go grad school.Even if recent graduates do get a job, chances are it is not the job they wanted. Jobs are so scarce that people are willing to take anything they [more...]

I left Louisiana in Dec 1987 and moved to Houston. I attended Art Institute of Houston and graduated with a degree in Commercial Art in January 1990. I worked as a men's clothing designer at a company called Scope Imports from Jan 1990 to Oct of 1993. I left there and did this and that for a while (mostly the things 20 somethings do when they are single) then decided I had better go back to school. I attended University of Houston in pursuit of an Art History degree from Spring 1995 thru Fall 1996. Things weren't going so well for me financially, so I decided to move back to Slidell in Dec [more...]

Bisceglio will pursue a master's degree in Philosophy and Literature at the University of Warwick. He is among a handful of winners selected from nearly 600 applicants for U.K. Fulbrights. It is “notoriously difficult,” says Dean of Academic Affairs Phil Bean, to win a Fulbright for study in the United Kingdom. “The U.K. is so easily accessible, linguistically, to Americans that it receives nine times more applicants than average for the 70 countries on Fulbright’s regular program list,” says Bean. CARPE DIEM: Turf War Smackdown: The AMA and MDs vs. DNPs
The assumption that an NP can be "equal" and there for practice independently with in a scope undifferentiated from mine is like getting a paralegal or a teachers aid to do 90% of your easy stuff. And by the way, you don't need an NP or and MD to diagnose a sprain. There is a lot of stuff you don't need any health care contact to manage. Paying an NP to care for the "easy" stuff is like paying a lawyer to fill out your taxes on turbo tax. You're wasting your money either way. At 8/27/2009 6:54 PM, Dr. T said... A Degree from a Proprietary School? Is it worth the cost? | Funny ...
Undergraduate tuition for an online degree at Grand Canyon University, which is mentioned in the documentary, ranges from $250 to $415 a credit hour: given a typical 120 hours for an undergraduate degree, a B.A. at this place could set you back $30,000 to $49,800! This will leave you strapped for cash, deep in debt, and with no guarantee of a job. Graduate tuition rates at private nonproprietary schools are even higher. Probably about a negative $250,000. (I have an MBA, and I was once a young college graduate.) I don’t think an MBA matters very much for starting a company. A much better educational background is an engineering degree. You can always hire MBAs, but if you don’t have the ability to conceptualize and deliver a product, you’ve got nothing. In email exchanges, Kawasaki explained that his issue with MBAs is that they are “taught that the hard part is the analysis and coming up with the insightful solution”. In other words: implementation is easy and analysis is hard. “But this is the [more...]
