Catching WAY WAY WAY up....

Going to UNCP, he could opt to use his Criminal Justice degree to do something else if the military life doesn't suit him. Chandler and coach Gibbs will talk again soon. Right now, we're not certain that Chandler will continue his wrestling career at Pembroke (who sent four to NCAA Division II National Championships and returned two All-Americans). There is a big conflict between the ROTC and being a member of the wrestling team. Both groups demand loads of commitment and even more time. Only Chandler can determine if he can put forth the physical effort to do both. I will update you on his [more...]

Myths, Which Prevent You To Reach Success.

Without education you will become neither the doctor, nor the lawyer. But to reach skill tops in many other trades, such, for example, as the journalism, an advertising, and design and practically in all creative directions, is not so necessary university or any other degree. At times it is enough only an evening school or the good textbook. Employers of these trades are more interested in your experience, own style and quality of a portfolio, than in the certificate. If you cannot be proud of quality of education, there is nothing terrible in beginning career with the bottom echelons. If you [more...]

Adult Education – Online | Does A Teaching Program Assist You In ...

Today you’ll find many coaching programs that claim to help you to find college jobs. There’s a big increase in the number of online coaching programs particularly. These actually are agreat idea because it can be frustratingly tricky to fetch help from school career counsels. This isn’t because they’re culpable at their job, but because they’re overwhelmed by students. Every year more students are on the lookout for varsity roles as the economy overcomes the recession. Calif. School Bans American Flag Clothing For Non-Existent Mexican Holiday? -By Warner Todd Huston California schools really do hate America. In California apparently you are a bad little boy if you wear to school clothing adorned with the good ol' Red, White and Blue. You get thrown out, in fact. At least that is what happened to several patriotic American boys that attend Comunidad Educativa Vivo Roble in California... oh, wait, that is the Live Oak High School in California. With all the dissing of America going on in California I thought the school had changed its name. Sorry. For the [more...]

The Need for Design Schools in India | Urban Architecture India

The demand for professionals in this field is going up by the day, as international brands call in on one of the world’s key manufacturing and consumption centres. But with just a handful design schools in the country, it’s an opportunity waiting to be tapped. “There are only five to six good design schools in the country. Had the supply of experienced designers been enough, some of the top manufacturing companies of India would not need to hire design heads from abroad,” says Forbes Marshall director, Naushad Forbes, who is also a visiting faculty at Stanford. The Indian industry [more...]

I think I have chosen the wrong school! - Netmums Coffeehouse

My son attends a church primary school in a good area. However, the school seems very 'set in its ways'. I am getting fed up with the car journeys (too far to walk with 3 children). The school also seems to push the children hard (eg. a different reading book every night in reception class which I think is too much). Plus the school has no out of school provision which the Headteacher will not even discuss despite many parents needing it. My local school (600 yards away) is not a faith school but seems a happy place they have after school club etc. My eldest son has been at school a year [more...]

Piedmont Publius » Blog Archive » Hebert's definition of 'status quo'

Kearns, a former school board member and Guilford County commissioner, was in the commissioners chamber in the Old Guilford County Court House on Thursday night when the election results were posted. She said she had taken no active part in Price’s campaign. I wish Hebert had elaborated on the definition of ’status quo.’ Remember, Nancy Routh won her primary, and fellow board members Alan Duncan and Deena Hayes —not without controversy this year —– ran unopposed. If that’s not the status quo, then I don’t know what is. . You can follow any responses to this entry through the [more...]

Legal penalties can range from hefty fines to prison time. “The punishment for felony criminal mischief, depending on the charge can include 10 to 99 years in prison and carries a fine of up to $20,000,” Officer Richard Morrison said. “If the vandals are juveniles, there is a good chance that they will be certified to be tried as adults. Re: Subsidies and For-Profit Schools - Stephen Spruiell - The ...

The problems that afflict health care, housing and higher ed are similar: inflated costs, due in part to government subsidies. Here's another: Thank God for the for-profit colleges. Without them, I doubt that state and community colleges would be offering on-line courses and weekend courses.  Or that teachers could update and extend their education on-line without leaving their families at home or with baby sitters. That's another good point: Competition from for-profits has forced community colleges to keep up. Here's one from a "former Foucault and Derrida reader": You couldn't be [more...]

Are online degrees as effective at getting a job as in-class degrees?

Absolutely NO – I do not know of any credible employer or any accredited university that accepts on-line course work as a credential or qualification for a job or for a higher degree. It depends on what school you choose. There are some very good schools that now offer undergrad degrees, as well as graduate degrees, 100% online. Harvard, Drexel, and the University of Michigan just to name a few. Then ther are the “other” schools; DeVry and the University of Pheonix. Avoid these types of schools at all cost, they are overpriced and not highly regarded by employers. I would suggest that [more...]

Big Education Ape: Public Schools for Public Good InterACT

One of my favorite education bloggers, Claus von Zastrow, writes the Public School Insights (PSI) blog as part of the Learning First Alliance (LFA). His approach is decidedly non-sensationalistic and level-headed. The blog highlights success stories that provide a much-needed antidote to the catastrophe narrative so in vogue right now. In his EdWeek blog, Reality Check, Walt Gardner recently dubbed this phenomenon “The Education Disaster Campaign.” You’ll also find that von Zastrow tackles a variety of education policy issues, and lately he seems to be looking at education finances, an [more...]

As administrator of this blog and on behalf of parents of the class of 2010, I wish families the best of luck in this interesting, exciting, challenging, and sometimes frustrating process. I hope that the information posted here—provided over the past year by an extended "village" of middle school families—will continue to be a source of inspiration and information that is helpful to [more...]
