Is a College Degree Needed to Get an Entry Level Paralegal Job ...
Up until recently, I did not know much about what paralegals do, except that they typically hold less responsibility than a full-fledged lawyer. However, when talking with a friend a few weeks ago, I discovered two things about her: A) that she was a paralegal, and B) that she did not have any college degree whatsoever before being hired as a paralegal. To me this seemed highly unlikely, given all those paralegal training programs out there. After all, why bother taking such a course if you don't need to? As it turns out, my friend had one of those rare cases where she was hired on the spot [more...]

One such organization; a relative newcomer, that has risen to national prominence very quickly (it began in 2003) is the American Alliance of Paralegals Inc (AAPI). AAPI’s fast ascent to prominence may be traced to the fact that it was the first national organization that focused primarily on the establishment of minimum educational requirements. In addition, members that wish to have a say in policy (given a vote) must meet particular guidelines through both real world experience and on an educational basis. Crucial benchmarks to gauge when examining the standard of a paralegal program: 1. [more...]

ambulance chasing for fun and profit!
The paralegal program that I am attending offers many of it's classes online – which is the primary reason why I went with this particular program. Both schools offering paralegal courses are a fair drive from my house, so any sort of gas-and-time-saving measure is, as Martha says, a Good Thing. For those who have never taken an online class, they are truly an exercise in patience. I find that the best way to tackle online classes is at 2am, with your choice of stiff drink at the ready. Honestly, that really is the only way I've kept my sanity throughout this process. Yes, there are some [more...]
