My fourth child was born at the beginning of a two year stint in the ‘real world’ working as a paralegal for the New York law firm Davis, Polk and Wardwell (a wonderful experience). I was in the first year of my PhD course at the University of Birmingham when I was offered a job in the Center for the Preservation of Ancient Religious Texts at Brigham Young University. Remarkably, BYU had found itself in need of someone with training in Syriac, bringing meaning and purpose to my studies.
