Crouse Hospital School of Nursing Prepares Nurses of Tomorrow
The Crouse Hospital School of Nursing ranks among the top RN programs in New York State and nationwide. Every graduate is immediately employable within the healthcare field, which offers countless opportunities for various types of nursing careers. For these reasons, coupled with the economic downturn over the last year and a half that has led to more people wanting to start a new career, the schools admissions have become increasingly competitive. Enrollment Management Supervisor Amy Graham recently discussed how to prepare yourself for a nursing program. For more information, call the school at 315/470-7481. The Crouse Hospital School of Nursing is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission, a high-quality, independent regulatory agency with rigorous educational standards. Offering a two-year associates degree, the school features classroom, clinical, laboratory and computer-assisted study within a state-of-the-art environment. Innovative programs, low student-to-instructor ratios and affordable tuition contribute to the success of each student.

UNICEF: Disaster preparedness in Philippines schools
This years International Day for Disaster Reduction, 8 October, arrives in the wake of a series of earthquakes, cyclones and hurricanes that have highlighted the urgent need to reduce disaster risk. The following story marks the occasion. ALBAY PROVINCE, Philippines, 7 October 2008 At Banadero Elementary School, the clanging of the alarm bell echoes around the schoolyard. Children file out of their classrooms in orderly columns to pre-arranged assembly points. All the pupils, even the youngest, have the calm composure that comes from practice, because they have been through this drill before. Towering above their tin-roofed school is the perfectly formed cone of the Mount Mayon volcano; a steady plume of steam and smoke coming from its crater. With such an imposing neighbour, which has a history of violent eruptions, practice evacuation drills are a part of school life. Due to these drills we are not anymore afraid, because we already know what to do in times of calamities, said the Banadero schools principal, Paulina Vibal. Partners in School Innovation
Partners in School Innovation works directly with public elementary schools in low-income Bay Area communities to improve the quality of education for students of color and close the achievement gap. We transform chronically low-performing schools into thriving learning environments by working side-by-side with teachers, principals and district leaders to implement a continuous school improvement approach that improves teaching and leadership and develops our schools' capacity to sustain long-term systems change. Partners in School Innovation website: www.partnersinschools.org This film is a special project of the Frieda C. Fox Family Foundation, and created by Rachel Lea Fisher. Mary Stewart School in Dunn NC
I recorded this video in August of 1989 with friends Scott Hayes and Ashley Wheeler. At that time the school had been closed for several years. We attended Mary Stewart Elementary School together from the beginning of the first grade in 1974 until the end of the sixth grade in 1980. The school was built prior to World War II and the building still stands today. Sometime after the end of the school year of 1985 the school was shut down and the property sold off to a local business. Many generations of people from Dunn NC had their children educated at the school. I hope this video will bring back some good memories of a great little hometown school to all who attended, worked and taught there in every generation. Blessings -- Andy Tart

ADVANCEMENT PROJECT DEMANDS FELONY CHARGES AND POSSIBLE EXPULSION BE DISMISSED
January 10, 2007 Sabrina Herndon, a Black student at Palm Beach Gardens High School was 1.5 credits shy of a high school diploma when a male assistant principal at her school tried to remove her from the girls locker room for wearing a strapless top under a jacket by physically carrying her out while in a chokehold. Palm Beach County Public School officials may derail a 17-year old high school senior from a college bound track to one in the juvenile justice system due to an incident stemming from a dress code violation. This is consistent with the trend in Florida to over-use suspensions, expulsions, and arrests that result in the needless denial of a quality education and lead students into unforgiving juvenile and criminal justice systems.
