Medical Assistant
The Medical Assistant program prepares individuals to assist physicians in their offices or other medical settings. Medical Assistants perform a wide range of duties. The Medical Assistant is responsible for medical and surgical asepsis, taking vital signs, assisting the physician with examinations and surgery, administering ECGs and administering medications. The business/administrative duties include patient reception, appointment making, recordkeeping, filing, bookkeeping, insurance handling, typing medical correspondence and transcription, and microcomputer applications. Laboratory functions include specimen collection, performance of basic laboratory tests and microscopic work. Graduates find jobs as medical assistants, secretaries, medical laboratory assistants, phlebotomists, receptionists, medical insurance clerks and electrocardiogram technicians. As an administrative assistant, you will not only prepare correspondence and work with customers, but you may also supervise the work of other clerical staff, research reports, assist others with fundamental computer knowledge, and handle private or confidential records. The Administrative Assistant program develops these abilities while emphasizing software applications, information processing skills, and exploration of a variety of office equipment. The Administrative Assistant program is offered at the Wisconsin Rapids campus. The first year of the program is available at the Marshfield and Stevens Point campuses.

How To Become a Physical Therapist Assistant
Physical therapist assistants (PTAs) help physical therapists in their daily activities which include assisting patients during rehabilitation. Their patients include accident victims and clients with such conditions as burns, amputations, stroke, vertigo, low back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries, and cerebral palsy. Physical therapist assistants must earn an associate's degree in physical therapist assisting in order to practice. Currently there are over 250 accredited physical therapist assistant programs in the country. Curriculum varies from program to program, but in addition to the theory and practice of physical therapy, you'll probably study the basic medical sciences and other general education courses. You'll also gain plenty of hands-on experience in a clinical internship.

MSTC - Nursing Assistant
Nursing Assistants, sometimes called nurse aides or attendants, are in high demand to assist in the care of patients in hospitals, extended care facilities and home care situations. Working under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, their responsibilities may vary, but personal care and emotional support of patients are always primary considerations. This 120-hour program involves online lecture, campus lab experiences and 48 hours of clinical practicum, which involves working in healthcare agencies with patients and residents. Students must be at least 16 years old to attend clinical practicum. The Mid-State Technical College Nursing Assistant program is accredited by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Bureau of Quality Assurance. The Nursing Assistant program is offered at the Marshfield, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids campuses.

www.bartonccc.edu The medical assistant is a professional, multi-skilled individual trained to assist physicians, work in a medical clinic and some areas of the hospital or laboratory. Students learn to measure and record vital signs, take medical histories, administer medications, sterilize instruments, assist with minor office surgeries, and handle emergencies. Students also learn to obtain blood samples, perform routine office laboratory procedures and electrocardiograms, and instruct patients in preparation for x-ray and laboratory procedures.
